It's another consequence of the Bush-Blair War on Iraq in 2003. Foolishly supported by some LGBT+ right wingers and hawks, the war on Iraq toppled a nasty dictatorship, but one which did not persecute women or LGBT+ people with quite the severity of the chaotic despotic rule that has followed the end of the Saddam Hussein era. The Peter Tatchell Foundation and All Out International have reported that Iraq has now enacted far more vicious anti-LGBT+ legislation than has been on the statute books previously. Mimicking the authoritarian Russian states clampdown on minorities, now even the mention of LGBT+ existence is a criminal offense. All Out reports that the Guardians of Equality Movement are on the ground in Iraq, providing support and cover for people whose lives are now at risk. Francois Zankih, for the group said that funds are desperately needed. You can donate at this website: https://campaigns.allout.org/iraq-help-lgbt-people
