The Guardian reports that the acclaimed musical Priscilla the Party, based on the cult LGBT+ movie The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, will sadly come to an end in late May, the latest West End production to be hit by unfavourable economic conditions in theatreland. The show is running at London’s £1bn Outernet complex in the Here venue. The producers of the show stressed that the show was not closing due to lack of support. Rather, many shows on the west end have been hit by the economic situation. In a statement, the showrunners said "“We can find comfort in knowing that the decision to close has nothing at all to do with the show itself. The extraordinary reviews and overwhelming positive response from audiences is solid proof of that. Numbering hundreds, every person in every department should be proud of their contribution.” Priscilla the Party closes on Sunday 26th May, with a Bank Holiday weekend blow out. And of course, the film and its wonderful disco fuelled soundtrack, remain firm favourites amongst the LGBTQIA+ community.
