The right wing newspaper Daily Telegraph has denied that it is slipping into naked fascism after it published it glowing and obsequious interview with Ron DeSantis, the far right Florida governor who prompted the top civil rights group the NAACP to issue a warning to African-Americans living in the State and facing clampdowns on a racial basis. In the sycophantic interview, Mr De Santis was praised by the Telegraph for his supposed "war on woke", a dog whistle term that refers to clampdowns on the right to assemble, attacks on minorities including black people, LGBTQIA people and Hispanic people, and the undermining of democratic institutions. Meanwhile, Louis Further, writing the anarchist newspaper Freedom, warns of the dangers posed by the Republican Party as it abandons any pretence of democratic norms. Louis writes " when a Trump or a DeSantis says that an administration of theirs will dismantle any whiff of equity, tolerance, compassion, respect and care for others, fiscal and environmental stability and regeneration in the name of fascist dogma, we’d better believe they mean it. After all, one of the sickest Republicans in the House of Representatives, Paul Gosar, was neither censured nor in any way stopped when last month he promoted the rather amateurishly put together and wildly inaccurate USSA News, which has carried ‘Holohoax’ messages, and before that asked his supporters to “stand up for Hitler”.
