There has always been solidarity between LGBTQIA people and countercultural movements, whether they be New Age Travellers and Greenham Common Peace Women in the eighties. or goths, punks and hard rockers. Our enemies are mostly the same - the right wing press, fascists and heterosexual thugs. In many smaller towns and villages round the UK. gay and goth venues are one and the same and people socialise together away from what feminist theorist Adrienne Rich described as "Compulsory Heterosexuality". You may remember that in 2007, a goth girl, called Sophie Lancaster, was murdered by a gang of hetero, macho youths. Her late mother created a campaign group to highlight hate crimes generally, and specifically against countercultural groups such as goths. Until August 21st, the SOPHIE Foundation has for sale limited edition pink t-shirts and tote bag. They say "The t-shirt (£25) and tote bag (£15) are a special one-off and will be sold at Bloodstock Festival.
