Although anti-capitalist groups allied to LGBTQIA politics have a strong critique of corporate support for Pride events, many others in the LGBTQIA+ community also welcome visibility in advertising and the availability of sponsorship that can allow many smaller Prides to go ahead. This week, Pink News says that Outvertising, a UK based group working with brands advertising with LGBTQIA community organisations, has called on companies not to roll back on Pride campaigns and messaging if they come under attack from what they say are “fringe groups” who are attempting to “erase our community in the media”. “If your brands allyship comes under attack this Pride Month, we advise you not to waver in your resolve because of a hateful few”, reads Outvertising’s statement, which has been endorsed by organisations including Publicis Egalite, Stonewall, Mermaids and the US based Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Corporate research shows that the public are twice as likely to support brands which show inclusivity as part of their core values, revealing that hate groups remain noisy but marginal from most people's lives.
