Tributes have been paid to the long standing activist Ada Bello, who has passed on at the age of eighty nine. Based for most of her life in Philadelphia, Ada joined the early lesbian group the Daughters of Bilitis, and its successor the Homophile Action League. Her work bridged the moderate lobbying of the pre-Stonewall homophile movement and the post-1969 more radical and militant gay liberation movement. She was one of the original organizers of the Philadelphia Gay Pride Parade in 1972 and 1973. Ada remained active throughout the AIDS crisis of the eighties and more recently helped found the LGBT Elder Initiative. She was honoured several times through her long life by LGBT+ campaigning organisations.
