Vegan news site Plant Based News pays tribute to the late Paul O’Grady, gay hero and entertainer, who passed on to the realm of our LGBTQIA ancestors at the end of March. Amy Buxton, writing for the site, said that animal welfare charities such as the RSPCA and the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home were among those who are mourning the loss of a friend to their work. Amy writes “In both his public and private life, O’Grady was a voracious animal activist. Choosing his presenting roles with care, he was often on screen with one of his own rescue dogs. If not, he was championing those in need of homes.”. She concludes “The death of a beloved animal activist reminds us all of the importance of adopting, not shopping, for companions. And while the man himself is gone, his legacy remains, passed good-naturedly to the rest of us. It is now, more than ever, as the cost of living crisis threatens to make more pets homeless, that we must all seek to be a voice for those without them. For the love of dogs, cats and Paul.”
