Independent newspaper B247 in Bristol reports that Sappho Events came to the city in late January with a non-alcoholic event hosted at workers’ co-operative vegan café, Café Kino on Stokes Croft. Originally founded as an alternative to alcohol-fuelled bars and LGBTQ+ nightclub spaces, Sappho began organising sober social events especially geared towards LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people, who have historically had less representation in LGBTQ+ spaces. The network has received funding from the LGBT Consortium charity to develop its tour of spaces for women and non-binary people across the United Kingdom with similar events planned in York and Manchester to name just two. Speaking about Sappho’s event in Bristol, Maryann said: “For the past two years we’ve worked really hard to find a formula of events that offer the queer community fun ways to connect with one another and make new friends in non-alcohol-fuelled environments, and we can’t wait to meet the queer community of Bristol!”
