UK based LGBTQIA internet radio station Queerly reports via US portal Them that Johnson and Johnson have concluded tests of a vaccine for HIV, which has sadly not given the protection that many had hoped for. The trial, of nearly four thousand people, did not cause any harm, but failed to protect the immune system from HIV. A spokesperson for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which partnered with J&J in the trial, told Reuters that although this failure was “not the outcome we had hoped for,” researchers “will learn from this study and continue forward.” A number of other vaccines are currently in trial with the Moderna pharmaceutical company testing four compounds, some of which are described as “promising”.
