Poignant Vigils Take Place on TDoR

30/11/2022

Trans Pride South West, which is in the middle of its annual celebration of all things trans in the beautiful West Country, paused for remembrance on Sunday, as the Transgender Day of Remembrance was marked throughout LGBTQIA communities across Europe, the Americas, Australia and beyond.  Trans Pride South West said “Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, where we honour those who’ve lost their lives to anti-transgender violence and discrimination. It is also a day to recommit to the work that remains to ensure that transgender and non-binary people are safely able to live authentically.”  Their vigil took place at the Lord Mayor’s Chapel.   Pink News reported that the large crowds in London’s Soho Square, in the heart of the LGBT+ community institutions, made for an “extraordinary night”.  A large number of organisations were represented at the vigil, showing solidarity and support from across our rainbow communities.  Not A Phase, Trans Actual and other groups spoke, and there were representatives from organisations across the broad LGBTQIA, feminist and progressive movements.
