Repeal of "Straight Supremacist" Law On Cards

22/09/2022

The US may yet see a bill passed by the senate that would formally repeal the hated Defence of Marriage Act, and codify federal protections for samesex marriages into law. The bill has been delayed until after mid term elections, according to Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin, according to news website Vox.com. Democrats need 10 GOP votes to pass legislation in the Senate, and an insufficient number of Republicans have signed on so far. However, there are indications that moderate Republicans may sign up to support the bill after the elections are out the way and there is less risk of a backlash from ultra conservative elements within their own party. Vox.com notes that the overwhelming majority of the US electorate now supports marriage equality.
