Drag queen Cherrie Ontop, speaks with top LGBTQ+ newswire Pink News this week and reveals that the usual suspects are behind efforts to stop popular events like Drag Queen Storytime, with fake claims that drag artistes are “grooming” children. Cherrie’s alter ego, Matt Cavan says “the overturning of Roe v Wade, the Supreme Court ruling that made abortion a federal right, has given rise to the right wing voice, and gave people who wanted women’s rights restricted the belief they had “won”. In my personal opinion, it’s fascists and it is extreme right wing Christians that this is stemming from, it’s not stemming from other religions and it’s not stemming from the left.” Cavan also notes that this is no simple matter of a difference of opinion. Hate groups have been targetting him and other artistes with sinister phone calls and threatening messages.
