The Jewish Chronicle newspaper reports that LGBTQIA Palestinians who are fleeing persecution in the Gaza Strip or West Bank, are now able to apply for a work permit, allowing them to work inside Israel. The paper says “Palestinians can now be issued work visas in Israel for up to six months, and can be extended beyond that depending on need, allowing them to earn an income and live a stable life.” The Knesset, that is Parliament of Israel, heard testimony last Monday from LGBT+ Palestinians, many of whom reported beatings from family members and Islamists. Whilst there are LGBT+ activist groups who say that Israel uses “Pinkwashing” to detract from its policies towards Palestinians, it is also true that homosexuality is persecuted in Palestine. Israel prohibited discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in 1992.
