Sky News reports that Benedict Cumberbatch has said the expected banning of his new film “Doctor Strange” in Saudi Arabia was a “disappointment” but he stood by the producing company Disney’s refusal to delete scenes involving a character from the LGBT+ community. Mr Cumberbatch condemned the highly conservative state, which is run as an absolutist monarchy, for its persecution of minorities, noting that people should be “celebrated” for who they are. In liberal democratic countries, “Doctor Strange” opens after the May Bank Holiday weekend.
