Gay heroes Tom Daley and Olly Alexander, both excelling their respective fields, are interviewed in the December and January double issue of men’s lifestyle magazine GQ. Mr Daley, who is also promoting his autopbiography, Coming Up for Air , appears on the front cover of the magazine. Founded in 1931, GQ, which stands for Gentlemen’s Quarterly, is a survivor in a world where publishing is seeing so many titles go to the internet to survive. It is also a long term supporter of LGBTQ civil rights, and in the seventies earned itself the monicker “Generally Que*r”, due to the level of gay men’s writing and reportage included. It was suggested that many closeted men could read GQ and benefit from the journalism of gay liberation, without having to commit to a “proper” gay title.
