Intensely socially aware and avowedly political – that sounds like our type of club and cabaret night. And that's exactly what is coming to the top Bristol gay nightclub The Queenshilling on June 24th. Cannonball Cabaret is the work of legendary scene persona and friend to LGBTQ causes all across the city, Discharge. In what is hoped will be the first of a monthly series of events, the inaugural night will include performances by Neo-Burlesque performer Jada Love, drag from Carmen Monoxide, and dancer and boylesque performer Romeo De La Cruz, as well as DJ sets from Punka’s Stu. Expect much in the crossover between the punk DIY aesthetic, the traditional gay liberation movement and queer drag as well. Speaking with reporters from indie newspaper B247, Discharge speaks of how the governent has demonstrated its contempt for the gay scene during the coronavirus period. I was reminded that I am completely disposable. That was the message that was sent by this government, you know, we were told immediately, you do not mean anything to us. “Our support was almost nil. Except for the community. The community supported each other really beautifully. There were a lot of hands out, and that was really phenomenal. But as a full time self employed performer and artist, it was really frightening.” Tickets are seven pounds and doors open at nine for a ninethirty start.
