Rising from the Ashes: New LGBTQ+ Space

15/05/2021

Bristol has lost and gained some cafes during the period of lockdown, a period that has been harsh on small businesses. Many LGBTQ and progressive meeting places have gone under, such as Milk Teeth which was on the Corner between Portland Square and Bishop Street. However, as one door closes, another proverbially opens and the misfortune of one much loved business might allow another to thrive. Aaron Onuora and Sophia Khan are taking on the empty unit and promise an LGBTQ and QTIPOC cafe a-nd bookstore, catering for the whole community and championing literature that is not generally available in the city. Triple Co, a fairtrade coffee roastery founded on Stokes Croft and now based in Montpelier, will be providing the coffee at the newly launched Hidden Corner, with a bar known as Saa’s Bar run by Saara Benfield, focusing on sustainability and specialising in cider. Customers will be able to browse the bookshelves whilst they refresh themselves. With a lot of socially conscious charities and businesses around the general St Paul's area and an upwardly mobile multicultural population, we hope this queer business venture is a success!
