The government's new proposals to amend public order legislation to curtail the rights of non-violent protestors have garnered much comment, and LGBTQ activist groups have been watching closely as the discussions unfold. On Monday night, Channel Four News devoted a considerable amount of time to the plans which have been laid before Parliament by the Home Secretary, Priti Patel. It was noted that Ms Patel appears to have a low opinion of contemporary protest groups, describing Black Lives Matter as disgraceful, and Extinction Rebellion as ”criminal”. LGBTQ Civil rights campaigners believe that the government may want to stop all manner of protests, and prevent them from carrying out LGBTQ activism.
