There has always been a strong affinity between people on the fetish and SM scenes and the gay community. Some lesbian feminists in the 1970's such as Audre Lorde condemned lesbian SM groups like SAMOIS, but after the liberalising of feminism under the New Queer Activism of the 1990's, the mood changed and groups representing the wide range of women's tastes became much more mainstream. The trans communities also found gay and straight fetish and SM clubs a useful place to meet in tolerance and relative safety during the nineties. On Thursday night, 21st March, Channel Five Television in the UK will meet up with people who sell sex with an SM flavour. We will hear their thoughts, aspirations, misgivings and positives in a reality show called “Sex Business”. Tune in at 10pm.
