Tributes Paid to Trans War Hero

28/12/2018

Tributes have been paid to a transwoman and Dunkirk War Hero, whose bravery helped the Allies defeat fascism and who participated in the liberation of Europe during the Second World War. Louise Jennings has passed away at the age of ninety nine. Ms Jennings had been assigned male at birth, in an era where understanding of gender dysphoria was very different from today. She served Britain during the war with the Durham Light Infantry Tenth Battalion. Gay Star News and the BBC say that she married after the war, but when her wife Edith passed on in 1989, Louise made the decision to transition. Louise lived her final years at a peaceful rest home in Sheffield. She was a keen painter and her work hangs in the City's respected Graves Gallery. Even the Daily Mail newspaper, not usually noted for its trans-friendliness, said that Ms Jennings would be celebrated in a funeral service on Friday 4th January, and that army colleagues will be welcome to honour her.
