Centre Parcs have withdrawn advertising with The Daily Mail with immediate effect. It follows a vehemently homophobic opinion piece published in the newspaper by Richard Littlejohn. Referring to the announcement by Tom Daley & Dustin Lance Black that they are to have a child, Littlejohn said that he still clings “to the belief that children benefit most from being brought up by a man and a woman”. He went on to criticise the fact that most people regarded the news “without so much as raising an eyebrow” and facetiously referred to Tom Daley “breastfeeding his new baby.”
Centre Parcs responded to the offensive article in a Tweet saying, ”We take where we advertise very seriously and have a number of steps to prevent our advertising from appearing alongside inappropriate content. We felt this placement was completely unacceptable and therefore ceased advertising with the Mail Mail with immediate effect."
The company is not alone in its response to the article - London’s Southbank Centre had said earlier that it too would no longer be advertising in the Daily Mail on account of the article.
