B247 magazine and independent newspaper reports that the continuing war of words over transgender access to public space has reignited after several more intemperate women tried to intimidate trans members of the Bristol Council, including both Labour and Green members of the chamber. In response, Green Councillors held up placards affirming that "trans women are women". B247's Adam Postans named two of the heckling cisgender women as Wendy Stephenson and Elaine Hutton. Their interventions claimed that Bristol City Council was failing in it duties towards cisgender people following the April Supreme Court ruling, bankrolled by posh author Joanne Rowling. In addition, Ms Hutton made unsubstantiated claims about alleged damage caused by "trans activists" to a venue in Brighton. Hutton was accused of hijacking the continuing debate. Explaining why Green and Labour councillors had walked out of a previous public debate, Councillor Tony Dyer said " the council “listens for all views and concerns raised by citizens”. Dyer added: “However, whilst gender critical beliefs are protected under the Equality Act 2010 as a philosophical belief, this does not mean that other people must remain in a space where they feel offended or distressed by those views. “Whether to remain in such a space is a matter of personal, individual choice for councillors or anyone else to make for themselves.”
