Ever since Susie Orbach published Fat is a Feminist Issue, there has been a large amount of mutual solidarity between the feminist and queer movements, and the body acceptance movement. From celebrations of dyke butchness, to the bear scene within gay male circles, there is resistance to body fascism which sometimes appears in the LGBTQIA community and is a form of internalised homophobia.
Now comes the news, reported today on Nation Radio in South Wales, that Luke Littler, the darts breakthrough who has a love of kebabs and does not visit the gym, has won the coveted "Sexiest Athlete in Sport" award. He left behind such big names as Jude Bellingham, Tyson Fury and even NFL star Travis Kelce. According to the women surveyed, attraction is not about looks alone. They were particularly charmed by Littler's confidence, sincerity and approachability. This is exactly what, despite his young age, makes him a crowd pleaser - not only among darts fans, but now beyond. Darts News.com also noted that Littler's victory over second place Tyson Fury will confound those who believe that an extremely, possibly offensive masculinity wins over women. Little defeated that notion.
