Local Footie Side Walks off Over Phobic Slurs

06/11/2025

Community  newspaper The Chew Valley Gazette reports that on September 27th, members of the non-league local side Chew Valley, based in the village of Chew Magna south of Bristol, walked off pitch and abandoned a game against Axbridge United, rather than continue to listen to what was allegedly homophobic abuse from Axbridge Players.  The Chew Valley side forfeited the game, which was three - nil to Axbridge prior to the incident.  In a statement, Chew Valley FC reported that their players were unanimous in wanting to terminate the match, and that they were united against bigotry and intolerance of any kind.  They also implied that there had been some difficulties with Axbridge United in previous fixtures.  The Football Association clarified that it had received intelligence on the match in question and was investigating.  The FA added that they did not tolerate any homophobic or other forms of abuse on or off pitch.
