LGBTQIA Jews join Community in Mourning

04/10/2025

Keshet UK, the UK's largest organisation representing LGBTQIA people from a Jewish background, published a message on Thursday of this week, expressing solidarity with the wider Jewish community over the murderous attack on a Manchester synagogue that took place on the holy feast day of Yom Kippur.  The attack was perpetrated by an apparent religious extremist who had been fed anti-semitic conspiracy theories.  LGBTQIA Jews have long pointed out that anti-semitic conspiracies often echo and even incorporate homophobic conspiracy beliefs within them.  Keshet UK stated " We are heartbroken by the antisemitic terror attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester on our holiest day, Yom Kippur.... We stand in solidarity with the victims, their loved ones and the entire Jewish community in Manchester and across the UK.  We are deeply grateful to CST, Greater Manchester Police, and all those who work tirelessly to keep the community safe.  May the memories of those killed be a blessing".
