Radical magazine Mother Jones is watching the breakneck speed with which Donald Trump's medical bill is passing through the US House of Representatives. The magazine notes "Trump's "big, beautiful bill" represents the largest cuts to Medicaid in US history, something Republicans explicitly vowed not to do. Anyone with half a brain knew that those promises were bunk. But watching the bill's hurried passage has still been astonishing to behold. Health care for the poorest Americans is now under direct threat. Without major modifications in the Senate, Trump's bill will undeniably bring carnage to some of the most vulnerable sections of the country. It gets worse. Republicans also snuck in two devastating measures targeting Planned Parenthood and gender-affirming care for all Medicaid recipients. An "overt, mean-spirited, unjustifiable attack on transgender people by members of the House" is how the chief legal officer of Lambda Legal described it. Reps. Diana DeGette and Ayanna Pressley, co-chairs of the Congressional Reproductive Freedom Caucus, decried the move as "Big Bogus Backdoor abortion ban." So will the Senate reject this abomination? With everything we've seen thus far, I wouldn't hold my breath.
