Describing the results of recent local and regional elections in England as a "warning" for the political left, the Socialist Worker newspaper analyses what can be done to stop the growth of the Reform Party that sits to the right of the Conservatives and which houses numerable homophobic politicians. Even the usually socially liberal Nigel Farage, the groups leader, warned that wherever he was in power, he would be coming for the jobs of people in the equalities and diversity sector of the economy. Samira Ali is national organiser for Stand Up To Racism (SUTR), which campaigned against Reform UK across England. She told Socialist Worker that the “surge in the election results is the alarm bell that anti-racists have been ringing”. “Reform UK is a significant force in politics and is reshaping the right in Britain,” she said. “SUTR is proud to have mobilised people around the country and brought an anti-racist message to campaign in areas Reform UK was targeting.” “The government’s pandering to Reform UK and scapegoating refugees and migrants has sent votes Reform UK’s way,” she said.
