Gay Friendly High Street Brand Saved

31/01/2025

Devon Air, a local radio station based in Exeter, has good news for LGBTQIA+ fans of the eco business chain The Body Shop, which was founded by queer ally the late Dame Anita Roddick in 1976.  The one hundred and thirty shops remaining in the chain have been saved after the purchase of the brand by an investment fund.  The BBC News Channel took up the story, noting that some one thousand jobs have been saved as a result of the purchase.  The specialist investment firm Auréa Group will also gain control of the Body Shop's assets in Australia and North America, in a deal which was finalised late on Friday.  The former Chief Executive of Molton Brown, Charles Denton, will take over the helm as CEO.  "I am truly excited to lead this brand which I have admired for many years," Mr Denton said.   He added that "bold action" would be required to achieve a "sustainable future".
