Gloucester Road Books, part of a whole network of progressive, LGBTQIA+ friendly and independent bookstores across Bristol, is looking for a part time salesperson and someone to get fully involved in the life of the bookstore. Does this sound like you? If so, please have a read of the precis and get in touch with them! This is an opportunity to join our small team of booksellers on a year round, permanent basis. We are looking for 8-20 hours per week as regular shifts, plus additional hours working our events programme, and extra shifts over the busy Christmas trading period. Saturdays are essential, but timings of other shifts & number of hours worked per week are negotiable for the right candidate. We are looking for someone who loves books, and is happy talking about them. The role involves contributing to pretty much everything that happens in the shop, from working the till to shelving books, placing orders for customers, contributing to newsletters and social media content, helping to run events and book groups, planning new title ordering for the shop, selecting books for our subscription service, re-ordering books sold, cleaning, organising… and more. Eventually it will entail working alone in the shop, but only once enough training and experience have been accrued and everyone is comfortable. The right candidate will have a voracious reading appetite, enjoy talking and writing about books, be able to multitask when the shop is busy and work more in depth on projects when it is quiet. They will be able to work occasional evenings to support our events schedule (usually at least one or two per month) and pick up additional shifts in December for our busiest trading period. No specific prior experience is required, but customer service or book industry experience may be an advantage. Please submit a CV & covering letter to hello@gloucesterroadbooks.com or drop them in by hand. Please note that only applications received during the submissions period will be considered. We will not consider CVs emailed prior to this, so if you have previously sent us your CV and wish to be considered for this position you will need to submit your application within these dates. Applications welcomed between 6th - 15th September 2024. We look forward to hearing from you lovely bibliomaniacs!.
