Gay magazine Instinct reports on a gay makeover for a classic sitcom that already has cult status in the international LGBTQIA+ communities.  The Golden Girls ran from 1985 to 1992 and featured four housemates growing disgracefully old in Miami.  Indeed, the original working title for the Golden Girls was "Miami Nice".  Starring Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty, Rue MacLanaghan and Betty White, the eighties Golden Girls dealt with issues including HIV, homosexuality, tolerance, love, compassion, family allies, animal welfare and the ups and downs of being a senior citizen.  But it was above all, rip roaringly hilarious and in the UK was shown on Channel Four (in Wales, on Sianel Pedwar Cymru).  Now, there is to be a new series which will reboot the Golden Girls as four older gay men located in Palm Springs, known for its tolerance and vibrant LGBTQIA+ Community.  Instinct magazine reports "Matt Bomer and Nathan Lane are set to star in Mid-Century Modern, a new twist on the classic roommate sitcom for Hulu with Ryan Murphy at the helm and written by Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan.  According to Variety, “Bomer will take on the ditzy Rose-like character, played by Betty White in the original ‘Golden Girls,’ with Lane taking on the Dorothy of the bunch. Linda Lavin will play Lane’s mother, a la the original Sophia".  Fans of comedy are awaiting the launch of the new series, which is going to generate a huge fanbase and provide the community with lots of viewing pleasure.
