US based LGBTQIA+ newswire Them.com reports that Republican conservatives, who are fixated with pushing anti-transgender conspiracy theories, have egg on their faces after the police confirmed that the shooter at a church on February 11th was definitely cisgender and heterosexual. Police killed the gunperson in the incident. Barely a day after the shooting, right-wing politicians and pundits lined up to claim that the shooter was a deranged trans woman, based only on now-debunked evidence. “It is unbelievably tragic and unfortunately all-too-predictable to see another community reeling from gun violence, and social media extremists trying to dictate coverage with repulsive and irresponsible lies,” CEO of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Sarah Kate Ellis told gay magazine The Advocate in a statement last Tuesday. Although irresponsible right wing news television channel Fox News edited its reports to backpeddle on the conspiracy theory, no other Republican extremist has apologised for the false claims.
