The Jewish Chronicle newspaper meets up with former drag queen, and gay actor Itzik Cohen this week. He stars in a series called “Fauda” which is popular across the Middle East. Indeed, Mr Cohen remarks that it is a television show building bridges of understanding in the strained world of Middle Eastern politics. He says “Many people in the Arab world watch Fauda, in Lebanon, Jordan, Emirates I have all these destinations on my Instagram account. One of the Emirates just contacted me and said if you come here, we’ll do the full shebang with the red carpet and everything.” Mr Cohen came out in 2002 but was already well known for being in a drag troupe in Israel called the “Pessia Girls”. His amazing journey has seen him married to a woman, divorced and having had several children, undergoing gastric band surgery and serving in the military. The Jewish Chronicle notes “His career has been so varied, from drag, to musical theatre, Fauda and now international films, how does he see himself as an actor? “I have a chameleon quality; I like to change; I can’t do the same thing over and over again.” he says.
