Bea Arthur Legacy Benefits LGBT Homeless

09/12/2017

At this time of year, it's nice to focus on some uplifting news, and so it is with pleasure that we can report on an article which was published on Gay Star News and which says that an annexe to the homelessness project the Ali Forney Center in New York is opening for LGBT Youth – just in time for Christmas. The annexe is named after Bea Arthur, the actor who died in 2009 and who was a lifelong supporter of progressive causes. Bea Arthur was best known for playing wise cracking and sarcastic housemate Dorothy in the hit sit com The Golden Girls in the 1980's. She left around three hundred thousand dollars for the construction of a specific service for LGBT youth.
