Radio Exe Devon, a local commercial station based in Exeter and Plymouth, reports that heterosexual violence is a common problem in the latter city, with three quarters of people saying that they feel unsafe in the straight bars and clubs in the city. Cross party support has been given to a strategy to make Plymouth safer after it was revealed that sexual offences have risen dramatically and domestic violence account together for one in five crimes in the city. Plymouth councillors unanimously backed a three-year citywide approach to tackle heterosexual violence against women and girls , which 89 per cent of people surveyed thought a problem in Plymouth. At the same time, in a slap down to TERF extreme feminists, there was no mention of any assaults being carried out by transgender people. Rather, heterosexual cisgender domestic abuse is responsible as the third most common reason for homelessness in Plymouth. Organisations including Plymouth’s women’s charity Trevi, the NSPCC, First Light, Mental Health Alliance, M.A.N Culture and others have been working with the council to drive culture change as well as provide support and safe places for people who have been subject to violence and domestic abuse. Councillor Ian Poyser, representing the Green Party, said that boys were finding it difficult to connect with nurturing and emotionally intelligent masculinity. “Growing up as a young boy trying to figure out what makes a man a man is very tough", he remarked. He said that the pressure of toxic heterosexual masculinity was being exerted on boys and young men and forcing them in to rigid roles.
