The Scottish Nationalist Party and the Green Party have agreed to work together on governing Scotland at the level of the Holyrood Parliament in Edinburgh. Whilst both parties maintain that the deal is not a “formal coalition”, the arrangement does give the Green Party its first formal governing role in its fifty year history. Since 2008, the co-leader of the Greens in Scotland has been bisexual activist Patrick Harvie. Mr Harvie has a rich history of campaigning on a wide variety of progressive causes. He has opposed ID Cards and the M74 Motorway extension. Mr Harvie is involved with a variety of groups including the National Secular Society, Parents Enquiry Scotland, Glasgay Festival, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Equality Network, Stonewall (UK), Amnesty International, Humanist Society Scotland, Campaign for Real Ale and the Campaign Against the Arms Trade. There are currently seven Green Members of the Scottish Parliament.
