The public sector trade union UNISON reports that two trade unions, itself and the GMB, participated in a major day of action in Glaschu / Glasgow on 23rd October as part of a major campaign for equal pay at Glasgow City Council, which is the largest municipal authority in the United Kingdom. Eight thousand people, most of them women, struck for forty eight hours and took part in a well publicsed rally to back demands for equal pay dating back a decade. The claims constitute the largest industrial action for equal pay since the radical high tide of the late sixties.
