Celebration on Telly for Gay and Female Icon

09/07/2019

Joan Rivers' life and times were celebrated on Sunday night by Channel Five Television. The national network aired a documentary looking back at Rivers' groundbreaking routines from a career spanning five decades. Joan Rivers, always a support of minority rights, from her own perspective as a Jewish woman working in the competitive media world of the US, won a wide following amongst gay men and lesbians in particular, for her strong female attributes and her no-prisoners and some would argue, quite vicious humour. Her final tour even played with the idea of her own imminent passing on, with the campy title “Before They Shut The Coffin Lid” tour.
