Pink News reports that the Charity Commission is to launch a “statutory inquiry” into the transgender youth charity Mermaids. The Charity Commission said that it will see if Mermaid’s governance is ““appropriate in relation to the activities the charity carries out, which involve vulnerable children and young people, as well as their families”. Mermaids has said that it will co-operate fully with the inquiry, and said that it accepts that it has “some challenges to address”. But some LGBTQIA people have hit back at the Charity Commission, with one tweeting “That bunch of miserable middle class oafs at the Commission did sod all to stop the poor management at the charity Kids Company in 2015, but now they’re taking on a small trans charity because they’re Daily Mail reading homophobes”. Pink News added that the “statutory enquiry” started on 25th November and will report in due course.
