Gay Football supporting groups have been taking to social media to express their support for the England squad, who came extremely close to winning the European Football Championships at the weekend. The Guardian noted that the side that got further than anyone since the World Cup Victors of 1966, was notable for diversity, with players wearing rainbow armbands in solidarity with LGBTQ people and top scorers being African-Caribbean and dual heritage heroes. Racist tweets and graffiti that were made after England's narrow loss, have been condemned across the political spectrum. ShoutOut producer Steffi Barnett made a statement on behalf of the region's top LGBTQ magazine programme, saying, “ShoutOut supports all minority groups whatever their background. ShoutOut's remit is to give voice to minorities within our rainbow of humanity. There is no place for hate”.
