Olympian Sean Comes Out To Applause

22/04/2024

US based gay magazine INSTINCT reports that Olympic swimmer Sean Gunn has come out publicly as gay at the age of thirty.  Originally from Zimbabwe, Sean now lives in the US and today makes his home in New Jersey.  Sean said that he had only positive support from his team mates, when he first broached the subject with him, and that his family have also been very accepting.  He notes " Although I haven’t had one bad experience since coming out, I guess I just struggled with it for way too long. As someone who did struggle with coming out and only did come out at 27 to my family, it makes me so happy to be surrounded by friends and family and so much love and am really grateful for them all."  Outsports - the LGBTQIA international sporting site, reports that Sean added “I honestly don’t think anything really changed at all .... If anything, friendships just became better. I think in my head I built it up for so long, and I was terrified that the way they acted or treated me would be different. But I was really lucky that everyone was so amazing and wanted me to be the happiest version of myself.”
