The Pagan Federation whose work includes support and socialising for LGBTQ pagan practitioners, have been in touch with a full listing of events for their fiftieth anniversary year. The Pagan Federation is the largest single representative group for the various pagan religions in the UK and was set up in 1971, emerging out of the new age and counterculture that also gave rise to Gay Liberation, Women's Spirituality movements and the new consciousness of ecology. In 1968, a newspaper called “The Wiccan” began publishing, with a focus on old fashioned witchcraft, known as the Gardnerian tradition. But it soon became clear that an alliance of different pagan paths was needed to oppose an attempt by traditionalist MPs to overturn the legalisation of Witchcraft that had occurred in 1951. The activist Pagan Front was launched and this evolved into the Pagan Federation in 1971. The full raft of fiftieth anniversary events include an Academic Conference on 24th July, District Celebrations on 18th September, and Samhain Storytime on 23rd October. Next year, the Scottish Pagan Federation will host the Pagan Pride Festival consisting of a march and festival.
