The neo-pagan religion of Antinous worship, which is followed by some gay and bisexual men, and which is a resurrected form of a second century cult of male love proclaimed by the nearly exclusively homosexual Roman Emporer Hadrian, notes that the "Dog Days" are here. We still use this term to refer to the hottest part of summer, during late July and early August. It refers to the rising in the sky of the bright star Sirius, known as the Dog Star. Sirius is a binary star system and lies in the constellation of Canis Major. In Ancient Civilizations during the Egyptian and Roman ages it rose during what is now July. With the precession of the Earth, this event now occurs in very late July or early August. The rising of the Dog Star was vitally important to Bronze and Iron age societies, as it coincided with the flooding of the River Nile, and fertiilised the land that was breadbasket for the Ancient World. The cult of Antinous notes " depending on where you live on our planet, you may see Sirius/Sothis rising just before dawn any day now ... as nighttime turns to daytime. During the daytime, look to the sun (symbolically that is, and never with the naked eye) and you see Antinous conjoined with Ra-Herakhte, Apollo, Invictus, Horus, Mithras, Belenus, Balder, Huitzilopochtli and countless other solar deities".
