The pagan cult of Antinous which has a considerable new age following amongst gay and bisexual men, this weeks celebrates the life and times of the thirteenth century poet and Sufi mystic Jalaluddin Rumi, sometimes just known as Rumi. His poetry continues to inspire people to this day. He was born in the year 1207 in what is now Afghanistan. When teaching religion, he met a wandering mystic called Shams-e-Tabriz, who taught him that god resides in the human being and is expressed through poetry and music. Rumi later found that Shams existed within him. The blog of the cult of Antinous remarks “The homoerotic character of Jalaluddin Rumi's spirituality, referring both to his love for Shams and his love for god, has ingratiated him to gay men because of the depth and sensitivity and sacred intimacy that his words exude”. Rumi, with his profession that all religions were one, passed away on December 17th, 1234.
