G-A-Y- promoter Jeremy Joseph spoke out in the pages of the Metro newspaper of the intimidation felt by many members of the London LGBTQIA community when the far right group known as the King's Army marched through Old Compton Street briefly barring traffic from the thoroughfare which is in the heart of the traditional gay clubland of Soho. Promoted by nazi organisation Turning Point, the King's Army seeks to impose Christian fundamentalism on the UK. The Scottish Nation news site covered the story in some detail, reporting that "The stunt prompted outrage from social media users, who suggested that the evangelical group’s tactics will not be successful." Thomas Willet, executive director at Equality Amplified said: “This makes me so angry. “This isn’t activism; this is homophobic intimidation. “These people are nothing but vile bigots through and through". Even the conservative Daily Mail newspaper, slammed the extremists, saying “This country is losing its mind.” Meanwhile, Iain Dale, a popular political presenter on LBC Radio remarked "What on earth is happening in our country? People dressed up in quasi blackshirt style uniforms having the gall to tell us to be moral. “Just sod off the lot of you. PS they’re 30 years too late. The sex more or less disappeared from SoHo years ago!” A historian also pointed out that under a law from the 1930s when Europe was descending into fascism, Britain has a prohibition on political groups marching in uniforms. There were calls for the Police to enforce this bar on the black shirted fundamentalists.
