More than Just a Number Scale is a trans inclusive, LGBTQIA friendly, blog fighting fat phobia and spreading the joy of plus side people of all gender identities. But the blog does not shy away from polemics and manifestos where needed. As many LGBTQIA activists will be aware, there has been a long standing intertwining of fat liberation with the more radical end of gay and trans politics, feminism, disability rights and gender queer acceptance. In a recent post, the author excoriates fat phobia and makes explicit the links with other forms of oppression. Here's just a little of their essay "If you need examples of how fatphobia kills, countless fat people die every single day because of medical fatphobia. They were denied proper healthcare because the doctors refused to give them needed tests and to “treat” anything except their weight. And then the fat person dies because they never received healthcare the way a thin person would have been automatically deemed worthy of. Fat people die by suicide due to the entire world calling us worthless, ugly, disgusting, and believing we’re literal animals. It’s seen as normal in this society for fat people to hate themselves and their bodies, for fat people to be “sad and lonely.” And then when a fat person kills themselves because they can’t take the fatphobia anymore, it’s only considered a pity. And since fat people are wrongfully denied gender-affirming surgeries like top surgery, you can imagine how much that contributes to the high suicide rate of transgender people too".
