In the US – Los Angeles to be precise, a demonstration was held on Wednesday at the offices of corporate media giant Netflix. Several members of the organisation's staff took part in the protest, which is against Netflix's alleged profiteering from hate comedians who, the action group Team Trans says, are inciting ostracisation or even violence, against transgender people. In particular, the release of material by a comic called Dave Chappelle has caused consternation amongst LGBTQIA users of Netflix. “We shouldn’t have to show up quarterly/annually to push back against harmful content that negatively impacts vulnerable communities,” organizer Ashlee Marie Preston wrote in a social media post. “Instead, we aim to use this moment to shift the social ecology around what Netflix leadership deems ethical entertainment.” The Independent Newspaper reports that LGBTQIA stars of Netflix's massive catalogue of productions are in support of Team Trans including Jameela Jamil and Jonathan Van Ness.
