American author, philosopher and editor David Douglas Boaz has died at the age of seventy. He was a distinguished senior fellow and the executive vice president of the Cato Institute, an American libertarian think tank. He was also an openly gay man in libertarian circles. He was the author of Libertarianism: A Primer, published in 1997 by the Free Press and described in the Los Angeles Times as "a well-researched manifesto of libertarian ideas." At the same time, Boaz said his views were informed by classical liberalism and opposed to populism. He expressed skepticism of party politics and did not join the Libertarian Party. He appeared on ABC's Politically Incorrect, CNN's Crossfire, NPR's Talk of the Nation and All Things Considered, Fox News Channel, BBC, Voice of America and Radio Free Europe. Mr Boaz was with his partner, Steve Miller, for over 30 years. The Cato Institute, a free market and libertarian think tank, had this to say "Under David’s direction, Cato grew from a small organization with a handful of employees renting office space in San Francisco, to a leading think tank in Washington, DC with a global presence. " "David was an authoritative commentator on everything from education choice and the growth of government to drug legalization and marriage equality." they added.
