Despite a large left vs right split on LGBTQIA rights and wider human rights issues at the moment, it is important to remember that there are many LGBTQIA and other mainstream Conservatives who are disappointed at the direction of the Parliamentary Conservative Party, particularly after a Conference that saw attacks on LGBT+ people, liberals, people of colour and asylum seekers, among many other minority groups. Andrew Boff, the principled gay Conservative leader on the Greater London Assembly, was thrown out of his own party's conference for quietly rebuking the Home Secretary's attacks on transgender people. Pink News reports that Mr Boff has been speaking about why he spoke out, saying that he hasn’t heard a convincing argument as to what gender ideology actually is, adding that it’s used by people “who don’t much like trans people.” Of the conference generally, he said “There was a general feeding frenzy, as far as I can see, on vulnerable people – asylum seekers for example." He also told journalists “That term, gender ideology, I know of no ideology. The only thing I know about LGBT ideology is that, generally speaking, it’s against people wearing cargo shorts. I just don’t see that it even exists.”
