As the far right wing Daily Telegraph newspaper crowed at the weekend that its fixated campaign against trans people was working and that what it called “a majority” of the public backed the government’s proposals to stop Gender Recognition reform in Scotland, so the anarchist newspaper Freedom noted that transgender people and allies were fighting back with daily vigils and protests. The paper editorialises “For Rishi Sunak this victimisation of the trans community is a way of appeasing the fringe on his backbenches. As with Clause 28 in the 80s a Tory government is trying to distract from its economic failings by victimising a vulnerable minority”.
