LGBTQIA+ Culture magazine INTO reports that archaeologists working at the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica, which is today on the border between Bulgaria and Greece, have found a very well preserved statue of the god Hermes from the Greek Pantheon - a god who had several male lovers and who parented Hermaphrodite, who combined both male and female characteristics. The statue was deposited in a sewer, possibly at the end of Roman rule in the area, when the Empire was converting to Christianity and pagan idols were buried. It is this that arguably has led to the statue being so well preserved. The statue's head and hands are in good condition, which is rare for so ancient a find and the sculpture is in turn believed to be a Roman copy of a Greek original. The statue is larger than life and is around seven feet in height.
